There are a few simple steps to measuring a replacement hot tub cover. First measurements should always be taken from the hot tub itself and not the old cover. The old cover has probably shrank and become warped due to excessive weight and age. That is why you are ordering a new hot tub cover !
It is recommended to measure from outside the acrylic to outside the acrylic when taking the length and width at the widest point. We always recommend to add a half inch ( .5 ) to each side or 1" in total. It is better to be a little larger than smaller.
Next we require skirt length. This is the amount of material that is required to cover the acrylic shell. In order for the hot tub cover to sit properly you will want to make sure the length of the skirt is not to long so that it doesn't bunch up.
Last is corner radius which is most confusing for customers. If you have a hot tub with a rounded corner then you will have to do this. As in measuring the length and width always measure the outside of the corner. Some hot tubs have tiered acrylic shells where you measure the widest tier. This can be done by using a carpenters square. Hold it up to the corner. Where the straight line turns into the bend on the radius is the measurement.
Strap and handle locations are also available. Normally the handles are put on the end of the cover that is used for opening the cover. If no location is specified for the straps we will then locate them in a our generic location. If you have a specific location then measure how far from centre and then the length of the strap from the bottom of the skirt including the clip. Example : if a cover is 90" x 90" then the middle is 45" . You would measure the distance from centre to the middle of the strap.
At Northern Hot Tub Covers we are also available to help you with these measurements anytime at email@example.com
To find the Radius of a corner it is easy. All that is required is a carpenters square. Measure the straight distance from the beginning of the curve to the inside of the Carpenters Square. The above diagram is showing a 8" Radius Corner This is normally the " C" measurement .
We started looking for a replacement cover and our local Hot Springs dealer quoted a price of over $800. So I researched on line and I found Northern Hot Tub Covers. I spoke with David and he was very helpful in answering our questions so I decided to move forward with my purchase. The result was a cover that looks and fits great. It is better quality than the factory cover for about $400 less. We're happy customers. It was a pleasure to do business with David and his team. Thanks for the great product and service!
